The founders of the company acquired a mechanical workshop in Mondragón, with the aim of creating a cooperative dedicated to the manufacture of tools and accessories for machine tools.
Technical licenses were agreed with various foreign companies (Ilma, Fimi, Verson, etc.) The manufacture of swan neck presses thus began. Manufacturing began of profiling machines, tube lines and lines for the manufacture of metal furniture, as well as shears and medium cutting lines. Due to the size it had taken on, and for publicity reasons, it was decided in that same year to remove the word Talleres (which in Spanish means ‘workshops’) from the company’s name, and to continue as Arrasate C.I.
The ULARCO group was founded in 1965 in Arrasate-Mondragón and was made up of Ulgor (the now defunct Fagor Electrodomésticos), Arrasate, Copreci, Ederlan and Fagor Electrónica.
Arrasatebuilt its first large-scale press for the automotive sector.

Arrasate took a decisive step in its evolution with the beginning of the production of double upright presses. This development allowed it to enter the field of large part stamping.
Arrasate built a new factory in the town of Markina for the manufacture of presses. This new plant allowed Mondragón’s facilities to be decongested and gave a new boost to technological development by increasing production capacity.
The construction of the new large factory in Mondragón began, aiming to centralise manufacturing of large presses and heavy mechanical devices, as well as to respond to the enormous international success of Arrasate and to meet the high demand for its products.
One of the largest capacity lines built in Europe for processing and cutting stainless steel coils was supplied to an important Spanish company. This was a decisive step towards the recognition of Arrasate as a key producer of cutting systems.
The company PROIN S.L., dedicated to the manufacture of cutting lines, was integrated into Arrasate , which became the largest supplier in Spain of this type of installation, and one of the largest such suppliers in Europe.
In 1986 the ULARCO group was renamed the FAGOR group, and it was not until 1989 that the cooperatives belonging to the group adopted the FAGOR name.
FAGOR ARRASATE was awarded the largest ever order placed within the Spanish machine tool industry, involving the supply of four large transfer presses to Volkswagen.
Putting aside mechanical transfers, FAGOR ARRASATE developed the electronic transfer in collaboration with the German company Gillet, and is still achieving excellent results with it to this very day.
The 4,000 tonne press manufactured for the Chinese market had a 10 metre table, making it the largest press built in Spain up until that point.
FAGOR ARRASATE was chosen to supply the largest cutting line project in Egypt up until that point. These consisted of three large cutting lines for cold-rolled steel and hot-rolled steel.
Due to large order volumes, the expansion of the Markina factory began in 2000. These new halls are equipped with 100-tonne cranes and several heavy-duty machines, including a 10-metre bridge milling machine.
FAGOR ARRASATE incorporated the Mondragón-based company Gamei, a manufacturer of screw presses, thus completing its catalogue by entering the forging sector and converting its facilities to house the activities of Fagor Arrasate Service technology (FAST), the “service” division of FAGOR ARRASATE. In that same year, it unveiled the first high-tonnage servo press without a flywheel.
The firm’s commitment to the great Asian market, as well as the significant buying and purchasing ties with that country, led to the decision to go a step further and invest in a complete production facility that was inaugurated in 2008. FMMTK has rapidly evolved into one of the leading companies in China as regards the design, manufacture and supply of presses, stamping systems and cutting lines.
FAGOR ARRASATE received an order from Volkswagen to supply a robotic line of presses for the production of car parts, which enabled its customer to increase its production by 40%.
FAGOR ARRASATE S. Coop. and ONAPRES S. Coop., both belonging to the Mondragón Corporation, approved the merger of their activities so that a company with the widest catalogue of sheet metal forming and processing solutions in the world could emerge from their joint venture.
FAGOR ARRASATE applied servo-mechanical press technology to hot forming production facilities for the first time. This mechanical servo press enables higher rates with lower energy consumption than the hydraulic presses used until then.
FAGOR ARRASATE commemorated its 60th anniversary by supplying SEAT with the most advanced high-speed press line in Europe. It also strengthened its position in the capital goods sector with the opening of two new production plants, one in Hilpostein (Germany) and the other in Querétaro (Mexico).
FAGOR ARRASATE strengthened its commitment to the German market by the opening of Fagor Arrasate Deutschland GmBH, its new facilities located in Hilpoltstein. This allows FAGOR ARRASATE to offer a closer and more personalized service and sales support to the clients in Germany and its neighboring areas.
Fagor Arrasate Mexico S.A. de C.V. has state-of-the-art technological facilities that efficiently respond to the demanding needs of its customers through a professional service that stands out for its speed, reliability and competence.
The project, recognized by a jury of experts in composites for the category of Industry and Equipment, consisted of the manufacture of an ultra-fast machine (up to 500 kg/hour for the prototype) for the mass production of individual customized preforms. FAGOR ARRASATE contributed as an associated partner in a project headed by AZL Aachen, the international benchmark research centre for lightweight materials.
With the integration of the laser technology, know-how and experts in this field from Danobatgroup, FAGOR ARRASATE complements its current activities in the field of design and manufacture of metal coil cutting and processing lines and gives a decisive boost to its technical capabilities both for the development of laser cutting solutions and for the development of simulation software.
The new service plant is operational from the beginning of 2022. The facility features a new building equipped with a bridge crane and offices to complement FAGOR ARRASATE’s current commercial and service structure in the country. The project seeks to strengthen after-sales service, engineering and spare parts inventory, while reinforcing Fagor’s relationship with customers in a market where it has carried out numerous projects in recent years and where demand is booming.
